The Moebius Group

The aim of Moebius is to bring young people involved in the work of the workshop to discover their relationship with art and the world through the development of creativity and visuality that later will enable them to innovate – even on fields that seem to be far from art.

We study the world from different aspects, make visual imprints of our impressions by deepening the technical knowledge of the participants. According to Moebius' methodology, it is salutary to get acquainted the children with materials, to prioritize the role of manual work over the constant presence of digital reality.

Two pillars make the stable structure of the visual workshop created by the Moebius Group over the past ten years: to impart the technical know-how and develop the ability to work together.

Technical preparation

The basic curriculum contains studies in drawing and painting in their traditional sense – handing over the related traditional methods by following Moholy and Kassák, Kandinsky or Johannes Itten – practicing the classical application of composition, perspective, color theory and proportions. The intensive, personal workflow is supported by external help from trainers. This includes the elements of Bauhaus's basic philosophy summarized by Moholy, Kandinsky, Gropius and others, that is, the knowledge of form, material acquisition, photography, compositional exercises, light experiments, and using analogue techniques transmitted into digital applications.

Workshop

Our workshops are based in the context of creativity-based community activities, inspiration, observation, and research work. Besides the joy of creation on their own, students learn what teamwork is about, how to think together. These workshops are always geared to develop a specific theme, which is supported by a variety of tools and materials, depending on what suits the project.

Our topics can be adapted to the school’s curriculum. The potential of the project-based training may inherently connect to our program. It is our vision that using our method we can fundamentally contribute to unfold and contextualize any school task.

At present in Moebius our focus is mainly on self-knowledge and to acquaint with each other by living the creative process through together while the spiritual energy is being released. We build on works of artists, poets and musicians, our choices of topic require free association thinking in the process. We look for objects that are analogous to the meaning and importance of life, as did the children in the world-famous novel Nothing by Janne Teller.

At other times, instead of literary, philosophical inspiration we turn to science such as the anatomical knowledge of our own body. We try to understand the scientific discoveries (astronomy, artificial intelligence, etc.) from an artistic aspect, by making art out of it.

We create exhibitions that function as community events in the given micro-environment. Although there is always more emphasis on creating than the presentation of the final result, public appearance still gives the participants a sense of accomplishment, giving them an opportunity to meet other doers and outsiders to exchange views. We store the finished objects, recycle some of them for later projects where they gain new function, merge and then separate just like the elements of the natural cycle do.

A Moebius csoport

A tudományos (csillagászat, mesterséges intelligencia, stb.) felfedezések megértésére is művészeti eszközökkel próbálunk reagálni.
